Protien & Fluid Tracking

Ok, so this is the first full day that I have had Sam at home and having to track his fluid and protien intake.  I am trying to use the book Jackie gave us, but it is not really easy to use with the
fluid and item eaten and then how much it is just set up weird. I was wondering if anyone has anything else that they use like a spread sheet? I am sure I can make one given a little time, but right now i am a little pre-occupied.  Just wondering what everyone was using?

I think you're making it more complicated than you need to.
Just think about how much protein per drink...how many drinks in a day...
Then I use a water bottle that has ounces on it and so I know if I drink 3 of those per day
how many ounces of water plus add the ounces of protein drinks...
At first it's hard to get it all in due to swelling etc, but he'll do fine.
I usually add it all together at the end of the day and see how I did. If I'm too short, I adjust the next day.
Again, he's lucky to have you! I wish I'd had a private nurse like you to take care of me and track all my grams and ounces!! You are a blessing!

I used an excel spread sheet with a new entry for each day. I had a column for oz fluid and g protein and set it up to add. I could have used a notebook, but I am on the computer enough I figure I would be better at using it. If he is getting in 3 protein shakes with 20 g in each, you really do not even need to worry about it. I figure if I drink 3 x 20 oz water that is enough fluid (less if you are still on liquid protein shakes). Any system that works for you will do.

Hey, you two.
I am using a single subject spiral bound notebook with a whole page a day. On the left margin I am putting the fluid intake and the right margin is the protein intake. I figure you can't go wrong if you have room to put everything down!! I also can use like the last page for questions that are popping up and the first page I laid out what exactly I could eat, this way I have everything in one place....So far so good.......though.....umm.........I just started that today!!

You can also use the online program, my daily plate.  I use it to track now, so it is good to start early.  You can find it at www.mydailyplate.com

I use www.calorieking.com

There is an annual subscription cost of about $75.  It allows you to input everything you eat and drink, exercise, etc.  It automatically calculates all the amounts of protein, carbs, calories, minerals, fiber, etc. and plots charts and graphs for you.  I printed them out and brought them to see the "nut" and she was thrilled.  It made it real easy for her to see potential issues and to make adjustments in food/fluid decisions.  It has most all brands of food and drink in a database so you just put in a brand of applesauce fro example and it already knows what all the statistics are.
